Busy weekend

I had a really busy weekend. I have a tote done and got a quilt almost done. Went thru my fabric to see what I have. I have tons of squares that I am putting into order. May make some crazy type quilts since I have such a diverse selection.

Weather getting crazy here again. Cold to hot, hot to cold and will be back into the 70's by the end of the week.

Rough day

I hate this time of year. The slightest change in the weather and the fibro and arthritis flare up. Only slept about an hour last night and can barely move today. Rain and cool for two days and today it is supposed to be in the 60's and the sun is shining. A cold front is moving in tomorrow with lows back down in the 20's. But that is East Texas weather for you. I wish I lived on an island somewhere where the temps stay in the 70's most of the time and had the soothing sounds of the ocean.

So much for the daily posting. Looks like I will shoot for at least weekly. I did get a quilt done this week. It is in the dryer and I will post a picture as soon as it is ready.

I have the pattern drawn out for a Saints quilt that I plan to start shortly. Looks like they are Super Bowl bound again and last time I couldn't keep Saints items in stock.

New Year, new start

Happy 2012 to one and all. This a brand new year and hopefully a brand new start for Quilts By Lee.

After a simply horrific 2011 I hope to make amends to all those customers I let down. If I have not gotten your items to you or a refund to you please let me know. I was locked out of ebay and paypal for nearly two months. I am still trying to trace packages and payments.

A brief recap of last year: our house was foreclosed on, I hurt my ankle and could barely walk for six weeks, broke a toe on the same foot, had four different viruses which had me bed ridden in the first six months of the year, crashed four computers (last one right before Christmas and it was supposedly brand new), had sparse, erratic internet service for several months, hottest summer I ever remember with $500 to $600 electric bills, car wreck in August, fighting with insurance for three months, daughter got married in October, lost my best ever customer Susan due to miscommunications and non communications (mostly my fault), got locked out of ebay and paypal and took months to resolve, email account associated with them was hacked, and top of the year I got another virus on Christmas day that had be down until yesterday.

New Year's resolutions:
try to repair the Quilts By Lee reputation
get stores restocked with new items
daily blog posts for updates
most importantly to make amends to all those that I let down in one way or another.

Thanks to all of you that stayed with me here and/or on facebook. The artfire shop is back up and running and trying to get the etsy back up and running. This will all take some time but I hope to have it all done by the end of the month.

Woo Hoo! I found some photos that I thought were lost when the computer crashed. I found them in my camera memory when I was downloading some new photos.

Here is a quilt I made last month. It had not been washed so the raggie doesn't really show. Unfortunately it is stuck in USPS limbo somewhere. Hopefully it will be located soon or I am going to have a cow.

Sorry that I disappeared again. The computer crashed again. (For those of you counting that is three in as many months). But at least this time we were able to recover the computer but not some of the info. Then the main internet server was down off and on for three days (and that was without storms in the area). Have lots to catch up on. Over 100 emails and messages to read and answer. Several packages to track and several to get ready to ship.

Since I have neglected this poor blog the last three months I am having a giveaway.

Foot saga

Good news is that it is not a falling arch. The bad news is it is not a falling arch. At least if it had been that could have just worn special shoes or an insert. Worse news is that the arthritis is getting into the bones of my foot and ankle. There is a bone spur forming on the top of the foot and one on the ankle. Will have to wear a brace to help relieve the pressure and will eventually have to have the spurs removed.

SIGH!!!

Still can't do much. Have to stay off of it as much as possible for a while to ease the swelling and pain. Will someone please hurry up and invent a lap top sewing machine......

Gettin old is a pain in the......

In my case lately it has been a pain in the foot. First the right one now the left one. It appears that I have a strained muscle in the top of the foot AND my arch is falling. It is all taped and wrapped up and I have to keep it propped up as much as possible for the next week. If it is not better will have to have an MRI on it to take a closer look.

How the heck am supposed to finish unpacking or sew? Not to mention another week or more of no water aerobics. The lap top computer is great that I can sit in the bed with it but I don't know of any lap top sewing machines.

Good question. I don't know where I have been. Doesn't seem like I will ever get back to the regular day to day. Still haven't got all the unpacking done. Had a fibro flare up and having a problem with my left foot. Go to doctor Wednesday on that. Finally found my camera yesterday. I swear that little elves moved things around on me. I thought I had marked the boxes pretty clearly but obviously not.

Susan, thanks for sending me an email reminding me to post on here. Did not realize it had been 10 days.

I hope to be in on a regular schedule soon. Thanks for bearing with me. I plan on having a giveaway soon.

Prayers for storm victims

My thoughts and prayers are with all the victims of the violent storms that cut a path across the South. We had some rather nasty storms here on Monday and Tuesday. Many tornado sightings and some damage but thankfully not nearly as bad as those that touched down in Alabama. Lots of power outages and trees and limbs down everywhere.

Special thoughts going out to Gene Black and Jennifer and Will. So thankful that the tornados missed y'all.

A little personal note. A large tree fell at our old house and had we been living there both of the vehicles would have been damaged and we would be dealing with that clean up. Sometimes we just have to trust that God does have us in His hands.

Started working on getting the sewing room put together. It has been slow going with a sinus infection and an injured foot. May have to recruit one of the kids to come and help me.

So much to do

Wow, there is still so much to do. Got everything moved from the old house to the new but now I have to unpack and get organized.

As I feared I over did it and went into a major fibro flare up. Plus I did something to my foot and it keeps swelling up.

I can't wait to get my sewing room organized and get back to sewing. I hope to have that accomplished by mid week.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter with family and friends. My grandbabies had a blast Saturday out at my Mom's.

Oh my, it has been a long three weeks. We finally got moved. Still lots of unpacking to do. Took four days to get my internet going but worth the wait as I now am wireless and can take the lap top from room to room.

I will post pictures of my new sewing room when I get it all together.

Super Late Models at Lonestar

Woo hoo! Super Late Models are at Lonestar (our local dirt track) tonight. I love this series. Almost as good as NASCAR....

We will have to get there by 6:00 so that we don't have to park in the boondocks and so that we can get close to our favorite seats.

Dogs are getting dipped and hair cuts today. It got up into the high 80's yesterday and supposed to do the same today and tomorrow. Ken is going to do yard work and help with the dogs. So my day will be pretty full.

Loving this new laptop. Will be nice to be able to take it into the sewing room so that I don't have to be running back and forth.

Computer crashed

My computer crashed Monday evening. I was able to get my old computer going this morning so I am checking in and giving updates.

Looks like I will have to buy a new computer since the other one is toast. This one does not have as much memory and don't know how long it will keep going.

Amazing how much work I could get done though not being on computer. But I was cut off from my stores and could not get to my order information to get them shipped.

Who Stole Spring?

OMG! I had to turn the heater back on yesterday. From A/C to heat in less than 24 hours. Plus it is cloudy but no rain. At least if it is going to be dreary it could rain, we need the rain desperately here.

I have been going non stop for the last three days, or it seems that way. Made a trip to Joann's Friday which is 70 miles away. That took up most of my day. Saturday was spent running errands with hubby and trying to find something to train the new dog with. She has decided that the anything made of plastic is hers to chew on. Plus she keeps digging and pulling the pump out of the pond. I don't have time to spend days on end of watching and scolding her. She does most of the damage when no one is home so that doesn't work. She is so sweet and loving and I hate to get rid of her but we can't afford to keep replacing things she ruins.

Ok, I need to get back to work. Need to do some listing and have a quilt to get going on.

I am so excited. I just got an order for two more quilts. Now if I can just get them all done. I need a mini me to get them all done.

The king size bugger of a quilt is at the clippers. That sucker is heavy with all the denim on the back. I didn't think I was ever going to get the final seam connecting the two halves done. My dream sewing room will have a long 10 foot table so that it can hold up all the weight on those big quilts. It is going to be fun getting a picture of it and I am sure I will have to take it to the laundry mat to wash it.

Yikes, it is pollen season

You can really tell it is Spring in East Texas when your vehicle stays green even though it is painted white. Unless you want to wash it every single day you just put it with it for a few weeks.

Plus my carport looks like a ball of strings from the oak trees. Monday it was sort of clean, yesterday it looked like oak pollen had exploded in the carport.

Doesn't help that the wind is blowing and we have had no rain. We need the rain to wash away some of the pollen and so the plants will survive. Guess I will be back to morning watering just to save all the plants, flowers and shrubs. To heck with the grass. I don't want a $100 water bill this early in the year.

On the sewing front, I am still slowly getting projects done. If I can just stay away from the seam ripper it would help. Back to the sewing or ripping which ever comes first today....

Update on Baby D

He is at home and resting as comfortably as a two year old can. He has decided that mommy's lap is almost as good as daddy's.

Baby D's Surgery

My youngest grand child, Darrin, or Baby D as we call him, had surgery this morning. He has been sick most of the last year. They took out his tonsils, adenoids and put tubes in his ears. I was up at the hospital by 8 this morning to see him before he went in. He was being a daddy's boy and didn't want anyone else to touch him. If he will get some fluids in him he can go home this afternoon.

Finally I am on the home stretch on the king size quilt. It seems this thing has taken forever. Hopefully I will have it to my clipper by the weekend.

A day with Cheyenne

The kids are on Spring break here so yesterday I had one of my granddaughters. This was the first time that Cheyenne and I have ever had a day by ourselves.

First was a trip to Walmart for some animal food and a few people food items. Then home to eat some breakfast, she chose donuts. (I know, bad Nana, but I did give her milk with them). Then while I answered some emails she watched cartoons.

When I headed for the sewing room she was hot on my heels. I told her I had some things to get done and she asked when I was going to make the book bag she wanted. So guess what we ended up doing?

She was right by me thru the whole process. Cutting, ironing, sewing and clipping. I finished just in time for lunch. Put it in the wash and told her I would put it in the dryer after nap time. Ok, so I took a nap and she watched cartoons.

So after our day together she now knows that her Nana is goofy. Got a package from my favorite quilt shop at http://fabricsnquilts.blogspot.com/. I was doing a little sing song thing saying "fabric, fabric, fabric". Then changed it to "purple fabric". She gave me one of those looks, you know the one, where people think you are nuts. She said "Nana you sure get excited about fabric". (What, this isn't a normal response to a fabric package?)

Anyway our day was nice just the two of us.

On the mend and some pictures

Well I am finally on the mend and getting some work done. Here are a few of the items that I have finally finished.

This is one of the large quilts it is a queen size.

And here is a table runner I whipped up the other day.

And like a dummy I shipped out a quilt and forgot to take a picture of it because I was in a hurry to get it out the door.

Still working on the king sized one. Putting the rows together then I have to make two shams and two throw pillow to match.

Once again I find myself at a dead stop due to some health issues. It seems to go in cycles with me. Went for months doing pretty well. Avoided all the flu even when the grandbabies had it. I am really hoping that once Spring arrives my health will also blossom.

Cat in the Lap

I think the poor Sylvester the cat is going stir crazy. With all the cold weather and snow he has spent a lot of time inside. Normally he stays outside more than half the time. He has decided that my lap is the warmest place to be and it sure makes it hard to type or sew with him in my lap. He has never been an affectionate cat since he is part feral. But it seems that he is mellowing out as he gets older.

To make matters worse, Lizzy, the dog is getting snippy with him. She is jealous of everyone when it comes to me anyway and she has been moping around with cabin fever too. When I get in the bed both of them fight for position and sometimes it gets ugly.

Got a Packers tote sewn and need to get it clipped and listed. Got the next king size bed started. This one is going to take some time. The customer sent me the fabric for the front and the back is solid denim. Hopefully I won't break too many needles.

What a week!

This has been the craziest week weather wise here, like a lot of places have been. Last Saturday it was 70 degrees, Sunday and Monday it rained. Tuesday the temps started dropping and we have not been above freezing since. Sleet and snow fell Thursday and Friday. Sun is out today and it is supposed to get to the low 40's so the snow should melt. Now they say we have more chances of snow tomorrow night. Come on Spring......

You would think that I could have got a lot of sewing done being cooped up in the house but the cold really messed with my RA and my knees would not cooperate. Amazing how much of your leg you use when operating the foot petal on the sewing machine. Tried moving the petal in different spots but was still too painful so I gave up and did some cutting and sandwiching.

Hope to get back to sewing today. Have one quilt that just needs clipped. My poor stores look so bare and I have got to get some stock done. Sure wish my sister lived closer so I could have her doing some sewing for me.

Everyone stay warm and safe. Will try to get back to "normal" as soon as I can.

In other news:

I have been working on the latest GCG round robin. These have been fun but very challenging. Deciding what fabrics to use, the layout and then making sure my measurements are correct really make me have to think them out.

I have several planned projects that I am anxious to start on. The scrap quilt challenge is in the works too. I keep changing my mind on what to do on that one so I am just playing with the scraps and getting them into some semblance of order.

My new "schedule" is working out pretty good so far. I got a little too caught up in it yesterday and actually forgot a few things that I needed to do. It is still being tweaked and I am not limiting myself just trying to set some priorities.

I want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. I hope that is filled with love and laughter and is a prosperous one.

Here we are in the second decade of the the 21st century. For those of you like me that have been around for half a century or more it is kind of odd saying that. I remember as a child thinking that the 21st century was some sort of sci-fi thing. There were songs about it that made it sound so foreign.

I remember in my 20's that it was strange to think that my Mamal was born in 1898 in the 19th century. She had a long life and lived to be 88. I loved to listen to her tell about the firsts that she saw in her life time. Things that are now part of lives. The first time she saw an automobile, talked on a telephone, saw an airplane, watched a man walk on the moon.

Now my grand kids look at me like I am from another planet when I talk about things from my childhood. You know things like typewriters and telephones with cords. There have been lots of changes in my 50 years here on earth. Cell phones, computers, Internet, satellite TV..... just to name a few.

Make sure you check in tomorrow for the blog overhaul and new features.

The last special order quilt was done and out the door Saturday. Now just need to work on a stocking for a neighbor and a tote for my sister in law. Mother in law got the fabric for it. Can't decide what design to do it yet. Need to get it figured out and done though.

Got a couple batches of cookies done yesterday. Ken made a batch on Sunday that are so yummy. Used to have all the cookies and fudge done long before this point. Decided on just some cookies this year.

Getting organized for the blog revamp that will start after the first of the year. Hope you will stay tuned for it.

I did so well with not catching one of the viruses that have been going around until Friday. Thought I was just tired until I started feeling really bad Friday evening. I do feel better this morning but still weak.

My wonderful husband took good care of me. Such a blessing to have a kind and thoughtful husband. Took me three tries at a wonderful husband but I think I may have got it right this time....

Hopefully will have some pictures to post later today or in the morning of last weeks projects.

Hello World! That is not only my greeting today but an awesome new song by Lady Antebellum.... If you haven't seen it the video is a tear jerker and really makes you stop and think.

Of course the last two months I haven't been able to stop and think about much. Every year I swear I will be more organized and ready for the holiday season but always get knocked back a peg or two.

I have however been doing some thinking late at night (or in my case early in the morning) about the direction I will be taking this blog and my online stores.

I already mentioned that I will be closing the eBay store. I will however be leaving a few custom listings so that some of my customers that haven't gotten the word can find me. I will also do an occasional auction.

I will be concentrating on the Etsy shop and have now listed everything in Artfire. I was hoping to have my own web site with a store but that is on hold for a bit. Amazing how much it costs to install a checkout and a way to list the items. There may indeed be a cheaper or easier way but for someone who needs the book "Web Sites for Dummies" it is over my poor little red head.

Starting in January there will be some changes and additions to the blog. I will be adding:

A deal of the Week on etsy or artfire (maybe both)
The quilter/crafter of the week will be opened up to more blogger's
The charity of the week will be changed to the charity of the month
There will be a monthly giveaway
I will be offering more tote and quilt kits (some will have exclusive blog and face book prices)

I also have some goals that I will setting for 2011. They include:

500 blog followers by the end of the year (hopefully I can reset this goal higher)
1,000 followers or people that like the Quilts by Lee fan page on face book
A minimum of 300 items for sale on etsy and artfire at all times.
Stock for the holiday season ready to go by the middle of September
An Accuquilt Studio in the sewing room to help accomplish the minimum item quota

Unfortunately the one thing that I will be doing next year is beyond my control. I will be having to raise my prices due to the increases in cotton fabric prices. Many of you may have noted the price increases of many stores and several wholesalers have announced price increases. Some things are just not in our control and we have to learn to be flexible. (This one is hard for me at times since I have a tendency to think that I am in control all the time...lol)

Nice little day trip

Well the shower was nice and the trip there was not bad at all. It was so nice to have a mommy and me day. We haven't had a day with just the two of us in a long time.

Here is the quilt I made for the shower

It is not the best picture since I just remembered to take a picture as I was walking out the door. Hard to make a camo look like a baby quilt but this camo pattern was pretty neat. I added as much light color as I could to make it look softer. I used the beige flannel you see on the front on the back as well. I also made a matching burp cloth and forgot to take a picture of the blue minkie dot lovey I made too.

Stopped at Stichin' Heaven in Quitman on the way there. Loved the shop. It was much bigger than I was expecting. I controlled myself and only bought one fabric that I needed to finish up a special order. I will go back soon and get some awesome purples that I found but could not justify buying right now. I made a resolve to use up as much of my stock as I can before purchasing anymore fabric til after the first of the year. (Any bets on how long that one will last?)

Have one more special order quilt and three totes to get completed this week. Hoping to have them out the door by Wednesday since they are local orders I can hand deliver them. Then I need to finish a queen size quilt for my BFF's daughter. Good thing she was not in a hurry for it. I don't normally do that large of quilts but since it is her I will do it. I told her I would try to have it done by Christmas.

Missed out Friday on getting to meet Barb from http://bejeweledquilts.blogspot.com/ . She was on her way through here to Virginia. I had an appointment that I could not reschedule so I missed out on meeting up with her. One day we will get to meet though.

Ok, off to work for me. Want to get those orders done then work on a table runner for Susan in Florida (my number one customer).

The faster I go, the slower I get

It seems like the faster I try to go the slower things get done. Really need to heed the saying, "measure twice, cut once" that carpenters abide by. It should be a motto used by fabric artists too. My first clue should have been when some of the squares looked smaller than the rest.

Going into overtime to get the shower presents done for my nephew's new baby on Saturday. I knew it was coming up but once again got behind. Looking forward to the road trip with my momma though. We are going to make a stop in Quitman at Stitchin' Heaven on the way up to Sulpher Springs. If I buy fabric there does that mean I can deduct the gas money as a business expense? Oh and I wonder if the WalMart in Sulpher Springs has fabric still. Have to go right by it so might as well stop in and look...tee hee

"Quilters" Block

You've heard of writers block right? Well I have quilters block. I know what I wanted to do but my poor little mind is not translating it. I know I am supposed to use this certain fabric but for the life of me can't figure out how to place it. So I walked away from it for a while and hopefully when I go back to the sewing room it will tell me where it belongs on the design wall.

Got one special order tote done last night and cut this quilt this morning thinking I would have it done by noon and ready to go to the next one. Oh well. It will come to me. Maybe a nice relaxing hot bath will clear my mind.

Weekend sells were not too bad. Was hoping for more but that is how it goes. Decided to do a 15% off sale the rest of the month. Look for the coupon code at the top of the blog.

After a rough week on eBay I have decided that I will be closing that store at the end of December. The policies they have decided to force upon us and the ridiculously high fees are the main reasons. It had been a good four year run there with the store, for the most part.

Sorry about the absence

I am so sorry about being gone so long. Those of you that have been following along know that the absence was due to over extending myself.

I worked almost non stop getting ready for the show last Tuesday. Monday was spent setting up. Unfortunately the show did not go as well as I had hoped but I did hand out lots of cards and hopefully some of them will visit the online stores.

I was so tired Wednesday that I slept most of the day. Thursday I started listing and that has taken most of my attention. I still have lots to list and worked on special orders yesterday. I hope to get all the listings done this weekend.

Top priority now are the house cleaning in preparation for Thanksgiving and the special orders. The sewing rooms needs attention desperately but it will have to wait. I will just close that door if I have to. My daughter, Hope, and her significant other, Wayne, were here Thursday and started in on some of the cleaning. The kitchen hasn't been this clean in forever. She will be back tomorrow to get the heavy stuff done for me, like the moping and the bathroom.

I will be back to my regular schedule of posting next week. Thank you so much for stopping in and sticking with me.

Charm Holiday Shopping

Have been in high gear getting ready the the Charm Holiday Shopping Spree at Maud Cobb Convention Center on Nov. 16th.

Along with the usual items that I make I needed to come up with a few smaller items for stocking stuffers. My wonderful friend Suzy at Hometown Hardware gave me this idea:

It is a little take on the coin purses that I was making with the raggie wallet sets. Didn't like the look of the key ring added to the the raggie style so I went for a cleaner look. So far I have made a dozen of the coin purses plus 8 wallet sets with this, new to me coin purse.

I have another dozen or so ready to sew.

I have also been working on Christmas stockings.

Went Saturday and looked around at a few stores to see what the trends are this year and it seems that "non traditional" colors and patterns are all the rage. I have several more of these that I will work on.

I also got a Longhorns quilt and two totes sewn up. They are with my clipper and should have pictures of them in the next day or so.

I decided that I would cut back on the Cowboys items since I have a feeling the sells of these will tank with all the turmoil with the team. I know that there are lots of die hard fans out there that will buy no matter how bad they are doing but don't think there will be as many this year.

I need to expand my horizons and think out of the box a little more anyway....lol

Update on brick and mortar: Looks like that will be put on the back burner for a while. Was disappointed but also realized that it may be for the best for now. I was really worried about how I would handle working 10 hour days, six days a week . I am not giving up on the idea but for now it will just stay a dream.......

Got the second Cowboys quilt done for the special order of two.

This was supposed to be a table runner but it shrunk up way more than I thought it would. I used up the last of some vintage fabric in there.

I have a Longhorns quilt on the design wall and I finished sewing up a few more Christmas table runners.

I am trying to get a few more fabrics listed but keep getting interrupted. I swear I am going to turn my phone off and just ignore the world.

I really want to go to the Houston Quilt Festival this weekend but don't think I will make it again this year. One of these time I will get to go.

I am really itching to get into some beautiful purple fabrics that Ken picked out. He does really good at matching up colors and patterns but when he goes with me to buy fabrics I end up spending twice as much as I planned. Guess I will have to credit him with part of the design process......

Off to sew. Lots on TV today and tonight. NASCAR race at noon, Rangers game, Saints game and Amazing Race all on tonight. Guess I will be channel hopping all evening.....

I apologize for neglecting the blog. Got caught up in getting the business plan and other reports ready to submit for going forwards with a brick and mortar.

In between I have been doing some sewing. Here are a few of things that got completed this week.
